  about us and our store
We purchased our first bedroom set just before we married,
more than 10 years ago. We bought it at a nationally-recognized furniture
store and paid a good amount of money for it. We were so proud of our
purchase, the young and savvy up-and-comers that we were! As it happened, an
older neighbor was visiting us when our grand purchase was delivered, and we
were quick to show off our acquisition. Our neighbor was very polite, but the first thing he
said was, "Oh, that's good. The drawer fronts are made of wood." We were a
bit dejected and wounded by his indirect slight about our new furniture. We
quickly realized then we weren't as savvy as we thought. He was right. The drawer
fronts were made of wood but the sides & backs were medium density
fiberboard (MDF) covered with a cheap veneer. The bottoms were low density
fiberboard, also veneered. MDF is a fancy way of saying compressed sawdust.
Thus began the learning curve of fools and their money soon parted. Over
this past decade, we've made plenty of hasty purchases which, in hindsight,
have been educational. Assuredly, though, the next time we purchase bedroom furniture, it will
likely come from an estate sale or an auction house. It will be all wood, have great
lines & characteristics, all for a fraction of the cost of newly-made junk that's
sold today. The whole experience of the bedroom set
purchase was the eye-opening beginning of our profound appreciation of
antiques, vintage goods and retro goodies. Things were typically better made
in days gone by. And the world moved at a slower pace too. You could unwind
at home by listening to easy breezy tunes on your Edison phonograph while
experiencing three-dimensional photos of exotic places through your
Stereoscopic Viewer or View Master. Magazine ads were fresh and
clever, luring your eyes away from the articles for which
you bought the rag in the first place. Nowadays, it's
difficult to even blaze a trail through the forest of humdrum advertisements
to get to the stories nestled somewhere inside your favorite magazine.
Welcome to our store, where you'll find those pieces of the past that give
you comfort from a world spinning just a bit too fast. Welcome back to your
childhood or to another lifetime entirely, where time stands still.
